Mary's Story
There was a dear woman named Mary, who was blind and so weak she could barely stand. Her hands were stubs, and her arms were thin and withered. She was crying and asking why God did not let her die; she did not want to live. Indeed her life seemed like a waking nightmare. She told us that she doesn't have anyone, just Jesus. She told us that all of her seven children and her husband had died, and she had been living at this colony for 30 years.

All her other relatives have forsaken her. She shared that she could not eat much because she did not feel well. Day after day she lived in that small dark world while her flesh seemed to rot away. But she told us she prays for other lepers who are suffering. We tried to encourage her the best way we knew how and then we asked her what her greatest need was. She shared in the most humble way, "I am not going to ask anything, but I believe that Jesus will speak to your heart what I need. You can do for me what the Lord lays on your heart".

After I heard what she said, I had to catch my breath and hold back the tears that were ready to pour down. My heart was totally broken. Here was a woman in need of everything, but instead of begging me to provide for her needs, she asked me in the most humble way to pray and do what the Lord laid on my heart. Even though she could not see me, I had to hold back my tears and pull myself together until we left that place, because I was there to share the Gospel, and to help and encourage the people.
