Leprosy Compassion Pack Outreach

Most of these lepers have lost their toes and finger due to leprosy.

We thank all those who have sponsored a leprosy compassion pack. The Lord has provided 35 compassion packs so far and this outreach has been a great success. Two days before Christmas, Independent Church In India (ICII) delivered their first set of leprosy compassion packs to a general government hospital, as mentioned in our last "Finding Lost Souls" newsletter.

At this hospital, the lepers are not cared for, and must even pay for the low quality food and medicine they receive at the hospital. If they don't have any money, then they must make their way to the outside and beg for their food. When the Gospel team arrived, 21 lepers came to meet them. The ICII team shared the Gospel to them and prepared to lead those who wanted to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior in a salvation prayer.

Just then, two nurses who were working at the hospital began to cause a problem, demanding that the team should leave unless they show that they gotten permission from the hospital leadership. These nurses had no love or concern for these lepers who needed someone to care about them. Sadly, instead they showed them distaste and hatred.

These lepers are accepting
Christ into their lives.

Pastor Britto quickly returned with a permission letter that he had gotten earlier from one of the authorities and the outreach continued. When asked if anyone would like to make a commitment to the Lord, around fifteen lepers prayed to ask Jesus into their lives. One blind leper began crying when he heard about Jesus and felt the love of Jesus touching him.

After the prayer, the team gave all 21 of them each a leprosy compassion pack. Then the pastors and Kathy laid hands on all those who wanted prayer and prayed for the healing, comfort and love of Jesus to grow in their hearts. The team was not afraid to touch them, because in the same way Jesus was moved with compassion to touch the lepers. Most times, no one will even get near a leper, much less touch them, because they are looked down upon as low-caste people.

All the lepers received their
compassion packs with joy.

That day, these lepers were very encouraged, and they experienced the love of Jesus to them. They were so filled with joy to have heard about Jesus and to have received this kind of love through the leprosy compassion packs.

Most of the lepers can''t even afford soap. Now they have soap and a towel, toothbrush and paste, bandages, some eatables, a Bible, and Gospel literature. They also each have a nice big blanket to cover themselves in this cooler season. The team also took their shoe size to order sandals for each leper so their feet will be covered to avoid further infection. Some lepers do not even own sandals, so their feet are continually getting infections. When their time is up to leave the hospital, many will have to return to the streets, because they have no home.

As the Lord provides, Independent Church's future project is to build a leprosy colony so these and many other lepers can have a home filled with love and hope.
