A Light in the Darkness

...by Kathy A. Smith

When the Independent Church in India (ICII) teams preach the Gospel in new villages, often the village people invite them back to have Bible studies. Five evenings each week, ICII is having up to four Bible studies each night. A normal Bible study group can consist of fifteen to eighty or more people! The Bible studies are growing rapidly. ICII is training up other believers and sending them as teams to teach those who are accepting Christ, so more studies can be started in the near future

Six days a week the teams are reaching the villages by preaching the Gospel and teaching the Bible to new believers.

For those village people who cannot come to the main service on Sundays, the Gospel team is going to them so they can be taught the Word of God. The Bible says: "Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god:" (Psalm 16:4).

The main mission of ICII has always been to preach the gospel to those who have never heard the name of Jesus, and to help put an end to the sorrows and emptiness these desperate people go through each day. Jesus saves souls and changes lives, and our goal is to continue to do all we can to reach those who have not yet heard this good news. This issue of "Finding Lost Souls" is dedicated to the story of one village named Seelapadi. The people of that village had never heard the good news of Jesus and were in a multitude of sorrows due to worshipping other gods.

Pastor Britto and Lowell Smith along with missionaries and evangelists David and Mel Huyard are ministering to pastor's at an ICII Pastor's Seminar to equip the poor pastor's and to encourage them to keep reaching the villages for Jesus Christ.

Seelapadi has been one of the most challenging of the remote villages where ICII is holding a weekly Bible study. But through the persistence of this ministry, God is touching many lives in Seelapadi. This article is also written to share with our readers and supporters how their love gifts are helping desperately poor families in the villages and leading the totally lost to new life in Christ Jesus.

It also shares about some of the many bizarre beliefs and practices that village people participate in and expose themselves to in India. Keep in mind that this is the story of only one village out of many in which the Lord is moving and changing multitudes of lives.
