Paul's Testimony: Delivered From the Chains of Darkness

His name was Silvaraj. Throughout most of his young life, he was a devout Hindu who diligently worshipped and served various gods. At the age of twelve, his parents dedicated him to the idol gods. Each year at the Hindu festival in his village called Kulasakrenkottai, the village people would tie him up in ropes and put mud all over his body. Then he would have to parade through the village.

After reaching their destination from the holy walk these Hindus are worshipping their multiple idols pagan gods.

Each year for three years Silvaraj walked in what he believed was a holy journey to worship his gods. In preparation for this sacred journey, he would fast for up to twenty days. Then, when finally eating, he would eat his food from off the floor without using a plate. Once the journey began it would take many days to complete. Through making these journeys, Silvaraj was desperately hoping to have his sins forgiven. He believed if he served the idol gods, they would give him peace and joy in his heart and would bless his family and his future life.

Each week Silvaraj would also worship snake gods. He would clean the place of worship and feed the cobra snakes for the Hindu priest of his village. The people in his village believed that he had the gods living inside him. They were expecting him to become the next Hindu priest of their village

Silvaraj shares his life-changing testimony; "Even though I spent much time worshipping various gods, neither I nor my family ever had any peace in our hearts. My family remained always in great need because of financial debts. One day the team from Independent Church In India came to share about Jesus in my village, but I did not receive their message. Instead, I mocked them.

I believed in my heart that the idols I was serving were the true gods. That same day, they gave me a flyer that announced that their church was having a free thirty-day spoken English course. I had a desire to learn English, so I decided to attend. When I began attending the spoken English classes, I heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ again and also heard lots of Bible teachings. After hearing God's word day after day, I decided to ask Jesus into my heart and commit my life to Him.

After finding this out, many of the people in my village began to mock me because I became a Christian. But one thing I knew was that for the first time in my whole life, I had permanent peace in my heart. I began to pray for my family's salvation and that my father would have a job so we could get out of debt. Now the Lord has provided my dad to have his own business and he has also accepted Jesus as his Savior through my witness to him.

After Silvaraj is baptized he gets
the new name of Paul.

The Lord has put a burden in my heart for the lost souls. I know that all over India there are people who do not know who Jesus is and I want to fulfill God's will in whichever way he wants to use me".

After Silvaraj was baptized, he got the new name Paul. Thus, leaving his old life behind, he has become a new creature in Christ Jesus. Paul has been diligently sharing about the Lord Jesus Christ in the remote villages with ICII's Gospel team. Now Paul is attending Bible College in the state of Tamil Nadu in India, and His future plans are to serve the Lord the rest of his life.
